See me just as I see you . . .
Colin Hancock is giving his second chance his best shot. With a history of violence and bad decisions behind him and the threat of prison dogging his every step, he's determined to walk a straight line. To Colin, that means applying himself single-mindedly toward his teaching degree and avoiding everything that proved destructive in his earlier life. Reminding himself daily of his hard-earned lessons, the last thing he is looking for is a serious relationship.
Maria Sanchez, the hardworking daughter of Mexican immigrants, is the picture of conventional success. With a degree from Duke Law School and a job at a prestigious firm in Wilmington, she is a dark-haired beauty with a seemingly flawless professional track record. And yet Maria has a traumatic history of her own, one that compelled her to return to her hometown and left her questioning so much of what she once believed.
A chance encounter on a rain-swept road will alter the course of both Colin and Maria's lives, challenging deeply held assumptions about each other and ultimately, themselves. As love unexpectedly takes hold between them, they dare to envision what a future together could possibly look like . . . until menacing reminders of events in Maria's past begin to surface.
As a series of threatening incidents wreaks chaos in Maria's life, Maria and Colin will be tested in increasingly terrifying ways. Will demons from their past destroy the tenuous relationship they've begun to build, or will their love protect them, even in the darkest hour?

Vanguard isn't your typical romance. In fact I'd say it wasn't a really a romance at all. More of a work of fiction that just happens to have a love story in the mix. There is a greater message to the story than just the romance.
As my first book to read by CJ Marusfeld, I'd have to say that it was well written, but very heavy in politics and the ins and outs of Soviet Republic and the United Nations. Sophie is a refugee aid expert and has been in love with Michael Nariovsky-Trent, who is a a Baltic-born American doctor who travels back to his home country during a time of war and is now missing. When Sophie finds out that Micheal is missing, she sets out on a journey to find and bring him home.
It's a really poetic and beautiful story of a man who fights for what he believes in and ends up getting a little over his head, and it's about a woman who would do anything to ensure his safety. I loved it, honestly, even when most of the book had Michael and Sophie apart. Great characters and setting, great writing- so it was a good story overall, earning the 3 olives I'm giving it. But you know me. I need a more romance centered story. CJ Markusfeld gave us flashbacks of when they first met to tide us over and help readers understand how Michael and Sophie came to love one another. But I have to say CJ kind of missed the mark on creating an epic love.

Author Samantha Young blows me away with her beautiful, descriptive words. She captivated me with On Dublin Street and her brilliance spills over into this highly addictive read.
Alexa Holland is the black sheep in her family. Her father turned out to not be the hero she believed he was while growing up. After the veil of innocence was ripped away from her, all that was left was a selfish and self-absorbed man who only thought about himself, never worrying about the consequences of his actions. Well his actions not only caused her great heartache, but it's venom also spread to Caine Carraway. And when Alexa found out just how awful her father's actions were, it changed the course of her life...bringing her right into Caine's unforgiving and sexy path while working a posh job as a PA to a celebrity photographer.
Caine is an extremely wealthy, handsome keen businessman who has scrapped and clawed his way to the top. Orphaned and along as a young boy, he didn't let that stop him. He channeled his hate and sunk to new lows to ensure he got there. He is powerful and unflinchingly arrogant. He can have any woman he wants, but he never wants them for long. During a photoshoot, he locks eyes with Alexa and is obviously drawn to her...until he finds out she's a Holland. When that goes down he blows up and Alexa ends up losing her glamorous job.

I was desperate to read this book after reading the teaser in Play With Trouble. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. You may think I’m kidding, but I can honestly say that I harassed Anna, (MTR's admin) until this book downloaded, and I wasn't disappointed.
Cleeton wrote another addicting page-turner. We've already read about the other two Reynolds sisters, Jackie and Blair, and now we have Kate's story. Kate’s heart was broken when the love of her life, Matt Ryan, died. We get limited information circling around the fact that Kate thinks her father was somehow involved in his death, but this book is where we get to the nitty gritty and all the good stuff.
Warning for what may seem like a mild, insy-tensy spoiler....
Now, if you read Playing With Trouble and the Falling For Danger teaser at the end, then you know...

Falling into Bed with a Duke by Lorraine Heath is the first in a new series called The Hellions of Havisham. This novel was a good read, however it wasn't anything remarkable. It's a solid story, but the characters just didn't quite do it for me.
When I read historicals, I'm looking for charm, whit, unrestrained passion, characters who are so obviously perfect for each other, but resist at all costs. In Falling into Bed with a Duke I didn't feel all of that to the degree that I love, though I could tell the author tried.
Minerva Dodger was a bit of a cold fish, without the charm you would usually expect one who have as a saving grace, you know...to balance out her flaws. But Ashe was right there with her in the rigidity department. Them meeting at the infamous Nightingale was the only thing daring about their relationship. Other than the fact that they meet in the brothel-type of establishment, their dealings together are nearly clinical and mechanical.
So this last week has been busy busy in the cover design shop! If you haven't heard, MTR has branched off to create sister site, Alexis Art Book Covers, bringing high-quality covers without high paying costs, because you know...we ALL judge a book by its cover, and we believe every author should have a cover they LOVE.
Here's what's new this week...

This is just another example of why Layne Harper is my favorite author. Her stories are so well written that once I start reading one of her books, I can't put them down, and I hunger for more as soon as I finish.
The World: According to Graham is the 6th book in the Infinity series, but it really is more of a spin off. The only book you need to read prior to this one is The World: According to Rachel.
At the end of The World: According to Rachel, we know that Rachel is pregnant and is going to resign her position as White House chief of staff, and she has just given the news to Graham.
Rachel Early is a strong, independent woman who never had the dream of getting married and having kids, but that all changed after her whirlwind romance with Graham Jackson. Unfortunately, Graham has a political radio talk show that is controversial and raunchy, and that can be a major problem for Rachel, because of her position in politics. Now that a baby is in the picture, can they finally have their happily ever after?

Comedy, romance, lawyers and a whole heap of kids - the perfect ingredients for a feel good book. Emma is my go to when I feel like a feel good story with some great laughs.
Sustained continues at the firm of Adams and Williamson where we initially met Stanton and Sofia. This time around its Jakes turn. Jake Becker lives a certain lifestyle, he works hard and enjoys his no-strings dating regime. that is until a 'health scare' stops him in his tracks and forces him to change his ways.
Then he meets Chelsea Mc Quaid and her six nieces and nephews. Jake and Chelsea have instant chemistry but Jake knows he's in way over his head. Life with six children is definitely interesting and is the basis for a lot of the comedic moments in the story. Jake has always been fiercely independent, so needless to say there's a lot of adjusting and lesson learning along the way.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Oh cheese-louise, people. This book is chock full of corny moments that would make even the most forgiving reader cringe.
Need Me is about a young college girl named Honey who is obsessed with her sexy as sin, young English professor, but alas he doesn't even notice her, because she's just a face among hundreds in his classroom. Ben doesn't notice Honey as a person, but the moment he reads her written papers, he's in lurve. Her writing is like crack to him, she's just that gifted, and he can't help but look among the crowd of his students and wonder which one is Honey...

Who doesn’t love a hero? I know I do, and Melody Anne certainly delivers. This is the second book in the Unexpected Hero series; you don't have to read the first book, but you should since it’s a great read.
I've read all of Melody Anne’s books; at least I think I have. If you have, then you know all about Joseph Anderson and all the scheming and interfering he's done to get his children married and get himself some grandkids. After marrying his family off, he moves on to getting his nieces and nephews married. Let’s just say that with his help, his friends are now up to the same thing.

I didn't love or even like the first book in this series, but this installment was great. I'll be honest; I skipped the second book in the series after reading the first one. However, after this book I may go back and read it. Each book in the series is a standalone so you don't have to read the other two in order to follow along in Safe at Last.
High school sweethearts reunited after 12 years of misery, Anna-Grace and Zack are brought back together and at first it is so heartbreaking, but it doesn't end that way. In the book, they work through all the hardships, learn to trust again, and right so many wrongs.

This book was the freaking cutest thing I've read. It was passionate, smart, hilarious, charming, and ack! I could go on. Neanderthal Seeks Human gave me all the feels. I completely fell head over heels in love with Janie and Quinn. And the best part! The book was free on Amazon (at the time this review was posted). I am a new found stalker of author Penny Reid. This. Book. Was. Perfect. If you love Brennan from the TV show Bones....you're going to fall for Janie. And McHotpants Quinn... that man puts the OMG in OMG HOTNESS.
Janie is incredibly smart and witty, awkward and beautiful. She's not perfect, but she was so fun to read about and watch her awkwardly meander through life with the only type of grace she can achieve.
A little over a month ago, Martini Times Romance launched its sister site, Alexis Art Book Covers. Where we specialize in premade eBook covers of the highest quality. This is the third book in The Secret Life of Amy Benson series and once again, we have another page-turner. I highly recommend that you read the first two books in the series before reading this one. You probably could read it without reading the first two, but I wouldn't recommend it. Moreover, the first two books are amazing, so why not give them a shot?
This story is told through the eyes of Chad, Amy’s brother that she previously believed had died in a fire that killed her parents. Not only do we get a lot of answers, we also get another love story. I loved this book. The story starts with Chad being held hostage by a man named Sheridan when in walks the beautiful Gia. Chad immediately thinks she is there to try to get information for Sheridan, but soon she is freeing him. Well, not completely freeing him. She now needs him to protect her.

I could not put this book down! I was intrigued from the very first few pages and then fell so hard in love with the rest of the story. It was refreshing, not only from the Hacker storyline but these characters had me smiling, swooning and laughing out loud. My heart was full <3
