With more lives at stake and games in motion, Ellie, Camden and Javier form an uneasy alliance that will take them from the treacherous streets of inner-city Mexico to the wilds of the Honduran jungles in order to find their freedom. But with liberty just on the horizon, the cost might come at their own redemption.
Karina Halle, I bow down to you for dreaming up this INCREDIBLE story with a cast of characters that touch on every dark and light corner of humanity; for delving into a treacherous deranged world filled with explosions, shootouts, and drug dealing psychopaths, a world where there is no wrong, where evil prevails, were morals don’t exist, where money buys you everything, and a gun solves problems; for creating characters that grow and evolve, thank you for changing my expectations of what a GREAT book is. There WILL be tears shed, Tylenol and wine, or maybe a shot of tequila is required, and I would not suggest reading this book before bedtime, it will induce high blood pressure.
Bold Tricks, is book three of the Artists Trilogy, and is by far one of the most amazing stories I have read. I am exhausted, heart broken, on edge, happy, and relieved at the outcome of each character. Needless to say, the hangover has set in. Each book in the series has gotten better and better culminating into an insane, high energy, experience…because this is beyond words on a page, these characters are so real, so dimensional, so kick ass, that they suck you into the story, and carry you on the journey with them. Ellie and Camden have such a longing for each other that it propels both of them to keep fighting. Under the weight of the situation that they are forced into, they manage to find love again, to rekindle a romance that Ellie had given up faith on and that Camden had fought for. Along the way the roles are reversed and it is Ellie that must lead Camden back to her.
“He was stronger, tougher, and more ruthless. He was also hurt, scarred deep inside by what I’d done. “
I have been utterly captivated by Ellie. She has grown from a cold hearted grafter with revenge in her heart, to an amazing compassionate selfless woman who lays down her life for the men she loves, transformed by true passionate forever love for what can only be described as my numero uno book boyfriend…sigh….Camden McQueen. I stated in my last review that this is a series about transformation, and I whole-heartedly stand by that. Ellie is forced to look deep into herself and make life altering decisions about who she loves, to what length she will go to save them, and what direction she wants her life to go.
Camden is everything that my imagination could conjure up as the perfect specimen of a man. Every time Ellie got hot watching him handle a gun, I was right there with her drooling. Camden travels to the ends of the earth, trudges through the depths of hell, and does unthinkable ruthless things to have a life with a woman that he only had a small taste of. Camden battles with his feelings for Ellie. He knows without a doubt that he loves her but he is so hurt and jilted by the fact that Ellie lets Javier manipulate his way into her pants. It takes blood, sweat, and tears for Ellie to prove to Camden that she is in love with him that she wants to be with him, that she wants a forever with him. But Camden McQueen is a hopeless romantic. Regardless of the situations that he is thrown into, he is a dreamer, a romantic, and he lives for love, bleeds for love, and is willing to die for love.
“Beyond the ocean and the world and the stars. You’re mine beyond that, baby, and I’m yours.”
“My Ellie. My beautiful girl. I will burn for you. I will die for you.”
And then there is the snake in the grass that is Javier. In Shooting Scars I saw a glimpse of the many layers of depth that he had, I thought that maybe there was some sliver of a soul buried deep down under all of the lies. He proved me VERY wrong. Javier’s true colors come through, and all of his lies and deceit come to the surface. To Javier, life is one big game; he used people as if they are pawns in his board game of life. He thrives off of pushing people to the edge, of holding their fear in his hand. He will stop at no end to get what he wants, and in the end what he wants is power, and Ellie and Camden are the key to the kingdom that he covets.
“He liked it when I hated him. Maybe more than when I loved him.”
I am not going to divulge any secrets, no spoilers for you curious readers out there. What I can say is that this book measures up to every expectation that you have in your head and then some. It is packed with action from page to page, and hits on every mark. I was so happy with all of the outcomes of this book. The destiny that each character met was satisfying and earned. Bold Tricks is the pinnacle of the amazing journey that is The Artists Trilogy. While all of the books are fantastic, they only gain steam and get better with each addition. I so highly suggest this book and this series; it will alter your expectations about what an exceptional romantic thriller should be. Go buy this book NOW!
