Declan Fraser hates her ex as much as Autumn does, but the last thing she needs is to put her trust in the hands of another man, especially one like Declan: his hard body and lulling Irish accent makes more than a few girls weak-kneed. The talented rugby player is rude and sarcastic, with tattooed, muscular arms and a cocky attitude, but he's the only one who can help Autumn win an ill-advised bet that, if lost, could cost her more than she's willing to pay. The reluctant alliance between Declan and Autumn stirs up cravings she doesn't want to admit, but Declan is a hard man to resist.
Just when Autumn starts letting down her carefully constructed walls to the sexy bad boy, he betrays her when she needs him most. Autumn suspects Declan has secrets, and she is determined to uncover what drove him away from her, even if that means fraternizing with the enemy. But will the truth return Declan to her arms or add to the scars on her heart? here to edit.
Autumn is a gorgeous red head, born of an American mother and an Irish father. She is recovering from a car accident that killed her mother, and that nearly took her life, leaving her with deep physical and emotional scars. With her father having left many years ago, and her mothers recent death, Autumn is left with a tight nit family of friends who support her and have her back. Her ex boyfriend, Tucker, returns to town to resume his place as captain of the rugby team and makes it a mission to get Autumn back. Her disgust towards him, and her sassy mouth lands her in a bet with Tucker. She must win a grueling obstacle course run against Tucker, or her and her friends will be forced to take part in a degrading "biddy auction" to raise money for the rugby team. Autumn uses this as an opportunity to challenge herself, to prove that she can bring herself back from the edge of death, to push her physical limits and attain a goal that seems unreachable.
While Tucker terrorizes his team, he sets his sights on the new guy, Declan who is freshly recruited from Ireland to play on the rugby team. Autumn instantly hates Declan, while she is insanely attracted to him, she finds him to be cocky, however she cant resist him. They have off the charts chemistry, with alot of build up to one very blood-boiling, toe curing culmination. The nature of their relationship, however, is a roller coaster ride; they are up and down and all over the place. Declan acts as a protector for Autumn, not that she needs it, but he feels the need to fend off Tucker, and keep her safe. Something happens early in their relationship that has Declan doing a 180. He is desperate for her one day and claims that he is not the guy for her the next. The reason will blow you away. Very unexpected turn of events, but oh so fantastic!
Autumn's life is further turned upside down when her father shows back up after years of no contact and asserts himself back into her life. Throughout this book, there are several different story lines with Autumn and her friends training for the race, the return of Tucker, Autumn and Declan's relationship, and Autumn's father being back in her life. All of these story lines are intertwined together, as the characters all interact add to every situation.
There are quite a few shockers and alot of twists and turns in this book. I was intrigued by the rugby atmosphere, and the spirit of the town and school was steeped into the story. I got a great sense of who the characters where, of why they were the way they were. Declan was such a great alpha male, and the revelations that are revealed about him made me want to wrap him up and snuggle the shit out of him. Autumn is a strong woman that has overcome alot of tragedy in a short period of time, and it has changed her, made her into a force to be reckoned with. I just loved this book. It had me laughing, crying, and experiencing a gamut of emotions. It was unique and unpredictable and just fantastic. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. If you like the new adult genre and college based romances then this is a definite must read!
