The New York Times bestselling author of The Valentine’s Arrangement continues her sizzling series with a new novel of a plan that goes awry—in the arms of a soldier…
Picking the wrong men is a talent Meagan Mitchell has perfected. She’s sweet, confident, beautiful—and single. With her thirtieth birthday sneaking up on her, she needs a new plan. No more Mr. Wrongs or Mr. Bads, it’s time to find Mr. Safe…
Army Captain, Reed Porter, lives for the thrill—he’s an Airborne Jumpmaster with a rush addiction. He’s sexy and playful, and he quickly tempts Meagan with his rich Southern drawl and sinful looks. But slowing down and settling down are not in his agenda, making him exactly the type of man Meagan wants to avoid…
As their undeniable attraction heats up, Meagan has to decide if she’s willing to risk everything on a chance at love with a reckless charmer. Is she brave enough to bet her future—and her heart—on Mr. Thrill? Or will Reed finally learn that the feeling of a safe landing is just as addicting as the rush of the fall?
Now…on to the story. This story was an amazing fill of emotions: love, humor, heartbreak, loss, and then back to love. There were a few parts that I cried, a few parts I laughed, a few moments I didn’t expect to happen, and a few predictable parts. Usually I don’t like books that are too predictable, but this wasn’t that bad so it was enjoyable. Both main characters had just the right amount of depth and nothing seemed forced by the author. You know, I think I’ll go as far to say that all of the characters in this book were intriguing and relatable. The story starts off with Meagan realizing she wants more out of her life than what she’s had. She’s tired of having all of the dead-end relationships and wants to settle down, especially since she will be hitting the big three-O soon. So, when her best friend Eva asks her to move to Georgia with her, she jumps in head first for a new start to her life. Little does she know she will be moving next door to none other than Army CO Reed Porter, the guy who introduced her to her first one night stand. But here’s the kicker: He doesn’t remember her!
“What was I supposed to say, ‘Hi, remember me? You fucked my brains out eight years ago in your motel room?’ No, it’s embarrassing enough that he doesn’t remember me. I don’t need to feed the humiliation fire by adding his own embarrassment to it.”
Meagan pretty much tries to brush Reed off, but her attempts are laughable. Even though he is not what she is looking for, he somehow manages to wiggle his way into her life. Surprisingly even after discovering their past history and him being a “complete fucking idiot.” Now that is one determined man if I ever saw one!
Reed and Megan begin a not-so-easy due to all the crazy sexual chemistry, friendship. And when they give into their feelings, it doesn’t end so well at first. Reed realizes what Meagan wants and doesn’t feel he’s the man to give it to her. He’s fighting too many inner demons to be able to give her what she wants, but it doesn’t change the fact that he feels for her like he’s felt for no other woman. They face many hurdles along their journey, some absolutely heartwarming, and some gut-wrenching.
Meagan was an absolutely strong, sweet, confident, sassy character. However, she has been broken by love in the past and is trying to avoid the type of man that will break her again.
Reed is exactly what Meagan doesn’t want. He’s the thrill seeking sexy, cocky, bad boy soldier with a thick southern drawl. How can anyone resist a man with an accent?! And, let’s be honest here, who doesn’t want just a little “bad” in their man?
Basically this was a sweet, fun read. Not overly dramatic or angst-y, but it had plenty of emotion and I loved the playful banter between all of the characters. I also appreciated the way the book was written in third person, yet told the story from both Reed and Meagan’s POV. I felt it helped me to associate better to both characters. The Epilogue was icing on the cake as well! I couldn’t have made up or pictured a better Epilogue than the one Ms. Leverich came up with. A perfect ending to a wonderful love story! Seeing that this was just so much fun to read, I will be on the lookout for more books by Kelsie Leverich. Don’t hesitate to give this book a chance if you want something light and heartwarming.
