All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.
When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.
Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.
Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

Quotes from Only For You:
“When someone tells you something about themselves you don’t want to hear—believe them.”
"You’re going to listen to me, and for once you’re going to hear what I say and not read between lines that aren’t there.”
“I was a fool, alone, preparing to do what every fool did at such times—I was going to a bar to drink myself smart.”
“He had a skull and crossbones label on him, but I drank his poison nevertheless and loved it; now I needed an antidote.”
“If you don’t remember your value, no one else will. Don’t ever settle, Ev. You’re far too precious a treasure to squander.”
"You'll continue to be a bitch no matter what, but I'm glad you aren't a callous, self-absorbed one."
“I stepped off the merry-go-round for a reason. It made me dizzy and I kept ending up in the same spot. It may have been fun for a short ride, but was never headed anywhere.”
"Jose had loosened my tongue; curse him, the ninety proof bastard."
"We played hot potato with my heart—me throwing it to him, him tossing it back to me. Every time the music stopped, I was always the one holding my bruised organ."
This was a week of great reading for me, and Only For You closed it out, wrapped up in a big fat velvety bow, that I indulgently unraveled. Genna Rulon…where have you been all my life? I got this book to review months ago and like an idiot, I pushed it aside not knowing the little gem that I had waiting for me once I cracked her open. Let this book stand as a lesson that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
Everleigh is a sharp-tongued independent woman. She is in her senior year of college in New York where she lives with her life long best friend and soul sister, Sam. Everleigh has no family and Sam comes from a wealthy family that couldn’t care less about her, their bond formed as children when Everleigh’s mother worked as the maid at Sam’s parent’s estate. With her mother’s death many years ago, Sam is the only family that Everleigh has and these two-woman love and value each other.
Their school has become the hunting ground for a cereal rapist turned killer. A year and a half into his spree, and with his victim count in the double digits, tensions are high, women are cautious and scared, and the University begins damage control. Hunter Charles is the drop-dead gorgeous self-defense instructor that the university enlists to teach defense strategies to the female student body.
On the first day of self-defense class, Everleigh is kicked out because of her sassy mouth, only to discover that Hunter (said kicker outer) is in many of her classes for the semester. With a very off base misconception forged, Everleigh lets her guard down and befriends Hunter. They have a sharp witty banter that adds humor to the story and cements the smoking hot sparks that fly when these two are together. Their friendship grows very quickly into one in which they both cling to and value. Everleigh harbors feelings for Hunter that she thinks he could not return so she suffers in silence until she can no longer hold it in. Hunter feels the same way but he cannot give her more then a friendship and he cant tell her why. She is all that he wants, all that he thinks about, and the one thing that he can’t have. Everleigh cant understand how he can feel the way he does for her and still refuse to get involved with her romantically, and she is forced to make a decision to keep him in her life or cut him out.
I can’t really talk much more about the nature of the story without giving away spoilers and I’m not going to do that. This book was way too good to spill the beans. What I can say is that the characters are fantastic. They are so developed and balanced that I have no complaints about any of them. The chemistry between Hunter and Everleigh is a slow build that has the pages simmering with anticipation. The plot is exciting, and dramatic, and intense, there is mystery, suspense, fear, and anguish mixed in with romance, love, and humor. In one sitting, I cried, sobbed, and laughed. My heart broke for Everleigh, and then shattered for Sam. It gets very heavy and very heart wrenching at the end but oh my gosh is it worth it. This was such an unexpected treat, a funny, emotional, romantic, and devastating story that I did not want to end! I am so excited to read the second book. I highly recommend this book, it was amazing.
